CESU · Pajemploi · CAF

How it works

For childcare, you employ me directly: you are the private employer and I am your employee. French families declare me online through CESU or Pajemploi, depending on their situation.

Declaring childcare is simple and, above all, safer for everyone: a clear legal framework, social rights for the employee, official records for you… and significant financial support.

Why declare childcare?

  • A legal framework that protects both parents and employee.
  • Social rights for the employee (pension, unemployment, health cover).
  • Official records: payslip and tax certificate generated automatically.
  • Savings: a 50% tax credit and, if eligible, CAF childcare benefit (CMG).

Declaring does not replace insurance: please check the liability cover of your home or holiday insurance.

CESU or Pajemploi?

  • If you claim the CAF childcare benefit (CMG) for a child under 6, childcare is declared on Pajemploi (pajemploi.urssaf.fr).
  • Otherwise (children aged 6 and over, no CMG), childcare is declared on CESU (cesu.urssaf.fr).

Either way, I send you all the information you need in your booking confirmation email.

1. Before the childcare

  1. Go to cesu.urssaf.fr (about 10 minutes).
  2. Create a “private employer” account if you don’t have one.
  3. Add your employee (“family employment”) with the details I send you on confirmation.
  4. Validate and activate your account from the email you receive, then add your bank details.

I recommend recording the declaration as soon as you book, with the planned duration: it can be adjusted after the childcare if needed.

2. After the childcare

  1. Log in at cesu.urssaf.fr → “Déclarer”.
  2. Choose “Le Thimonnier Anne” and the activity “Accompagnant et garde d’enfants”.
  3. Enter the hours worked and the net hourly wage.
  4. Click “Enregistrer ma déclaration”, adjust if needed, then confirm.

The payslip is generated automatically in your employer area and in mine. After each booking, I send you a summary of the hours, ready to copy.

3. End of contract

  1. In your account, go to “Gérer le salarié” then “Fin de contrat”.
  2. “Générer les documents” → enter the start and end dates.
  3. Fixed-term contract: fill in the working days and hours; reason “CDD arrivé à son terme”.
  4. Complete the sworn statement, save and generate the documents.
  5. Download the France Travail employer certificate and the payslip (available within 24–48 h in “Mes déclarations”) and send them to me, thank you!

The tax credit

Declared amounts are sent directly to the French tax office: they appear pre-filled in your income tax return. You check, sign, and 50% of your remaining costs (after any CMG) are refunded or deducted.

Indicative example for 16 hours of care for one child:

  • Net wage: €25 × 16 h = €400
  • Contributions (about 80% of net): + €320
  • CAF childcare benefit (example): − €150
  • Remaining cost: €560
  • 50% tax credit: − €280

Final cost: €280, i.e. €17.50 per hour.

The CAF childcare benefit (CMG)

The CMG is a CAF benefit for the care of children under 6; the amount depends on your income and the number of hours.

  1. Log in to your account at caf.fr.
  2. “Mon compte” → “Mes démarches” → “Demander une prestation” → CMG (one request per employee).
  3. Enter your child, the start date, the number of hours and the hourly wage, then my details.

CAF then pays the CMG at the beginning of the following month. A first request takes about 10 minutes.

Amounts and procedures are given for information only and may change: always refer to caf.fr, pajemploi.urssaf.fr, cesu.urssaf.fr and impots.gouv.fr.
